Throughlines: Objects of Belonging

2024

As part of the installation team, I worked with my team to complete the entire exhibition setup. Additionally, I exhibited a framed photograph that represents what 'belonging' means to me.

Curatorial Statement
The relationship between people and spaces, whether it be a sense of home, physical land, distant memory, or aspect of identity, can often manifest itself within physical objects.

In Throughlines: Objects of Belonging, we look to objects as mediators of the emotional and physical aspects of belonging. Investigating the different kinds of relationships objects can symbolize and remind us of; we question a linear way of seeing relationships of belonging, instead looking towards the connections we can form in the in-between.

By tracing the relationships found in the presence of these objects that bridge us, we hope to understand better what brings us belonging and why. How do objects reveal that which matters most to us, and how can we stay true to where we come from while finding solace in distance, independence, and relocation?
