The Final Desk Crit
2024
As part of the curator team, we built all the structures, fabricated the installations, and worked on the show's theme and graphic design.
Curatorial Statement
The studio environment inherently calls for one to fully immerse themselves within the space with which we work–which means imparting yourself onto a specific desk for a period of time. Each semester we are given a new desk, a new canvas to project ourselves onto. As the semester progresses, each student appropriates their desk to their needs, comfort level, and personality. By the end of the semester, each desk becomes a self-reflection of each student, and you are able to associate each desk with the student without the student even being present. This year's theme of our grad show is desk reflections/Desk Crit–how we, as designers, have appropriated the desk to reflect our work and, thereby, ourselves. Just as we are assigned desks based on studio placement at the start of every semester, the layout of our “studio” here comes with a floor plan demarcating where each student sits.
